I grew up in Leicestershire, spending days at Grace Road watching with fascination the long determined slog of a county cricket match, and the heightened excitement of one-day cricket. I remember watching the greats such as David Gower make their starts, and was lucky enough to be around when Leicester went through its golden period taking out trophies such as the Benson & Hedges Cup.
When I was a teenager we moved to Australia. I grew to love the excitement of the SCG on test match day during lazy summer days and by the time the Ashes came to Sydney in 91 I was a true convert.
Every year I go to countless cricket games, if I drive past a local game on a weekend I find it hard not to just pull over and watch for a while. There´s beauty and grit in cricket at all levels that is hard to resist. In this blog, I thought I´d share my lay-man thoughts on the game and its changes, I´m not an expert, just a man who loves the willow.
